St Mary’s Soup Kitchen
Fortnightly* on a Friday a group of volunteers gather in the kitchen block alongside St Mary’s Church in Geraldine. Organiser Fi McCafferty says, “Whether it’s financial difficulty or simply the need for some company, we invite people to come along to warm their tummies and their heart with ‘a hug in a bowl’.”
St Mary’s Soup Kitchen opens at 12 noon, with last orders taken at 1.30pm. See Soup Kitchen calendar for dates. All food is complimentary. Keen to volunteer time or contribute ingredients? Call Fi on 027 899 0703 or email fi@hislopstreet.co.nz.
*runs February through November; see calendar for details

Rest Home Services
Our vicar, Rev Hugh McCafferty, and lay minister Jan Hill, take monthly communion services at Waihi Lodge and McKenzie Healthcare. Rev Hugh says, “Its a privilege and a pleasure to bring the sacrament to the residents who appreciate singing the old hymns to the accompaniment of Anne Trezise on piano. It is always good when parishioners attend, as well, and help residents find their place on the hymn sheet, if needed.”
Service Times
McKenzie Healthcare | 1.30pm | Second Wednesday of the month
Waihi Lodge | 11am | Third Tuesday of the month

Kindness Rocks Geraldine
Born out of a Messy Church session on the Good Samaritan where the children painted rocks with messages of joy and love, the Kindness Rocks step sits outside St Mary’s offering small brightly painted gifts to brighten the finder’s day. And while a small group of volunteers meet fortnightly to keep the step fully stocked, visitors are also invited to add their own rocks to the collection.

Groups
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:24-25
